Like the historical Jane Grey, My Lady Jane has experienced a brief reign.

Amazon’s Prime Video has canceled the period drama that blended romance with alternate-world fantasy. This decision follows the release of all eight episodes of the show's first (and now only) season about seven weeks ago.
Based on the novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, My Lady Jane is set in a 16th-century England where humans live alongside shape-shifters who can transform into either people or animals.
Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is an ordinary human, known as a Verity, who becomes an ally to the oppressed shape-shifters, called Ethians. Her growing support for them poses a threat to the ruling class as Jane ascends to power.
Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent, and Ollie Chris (who narrates) joined Bader in the cast of My Lady Jane.
The series received mostly positive reviews from critics. Angie Han of Morfeli Reporter noted that while the show might not be as edgy or uproarious as it aimed to be, it still offered considerable amusement throughout its eight-hour run.
Despite the favorable critiques, the show did not gain significant traction with viewers. Prime Video does not provide detailed ratings data, and My Lady Jane failed to make it into Nielsen’s top 10 streaming charts in the month following its release.
Gemma Burgess created the series and served as co-showrunner with Meredith Glynn. They executive produced alongside director Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw, and Laurie MacDonald. The series was produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
