Initially, on November 27, the FDA announced the recall of approximately 10,800 retail units of organic, pasture-raised eggs sold in 24-count cartons under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand. These eggs were distributed by New York-based Handsome Brook Farms.
However, in an updated notice released on Friday, the FDA elevated the recall to a Class I classification. This designation signifies "a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."
The affected egg cartons were distributed to 25 Costco stores across five states: Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These eggs were available for purchase starting November 22.
The recalled eggs are labeled "Organic Pasture Raised" and sold in 24-count cartons. They carry the Universal Product Code (UPC) 9661910680 and a use-by date of January 5, 2025.
The FDA advises customers who purchased these eggs to return them to Costco for a full refund to ensure consumer safety.
