The Orphan Black sequel, starring Krysten Ritter, was set in the near future within the same fictional universe as the original BBC cult hit, which featured Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning.

The show's logline described Echoes as following an “adult Kira (Ritter) and her wife as they assist an amnesiac woman." The futuristic storyline delved into the scientific manipulation of human existence, with a group of women becoming intertwined in each other’s lives as they embark on a thrilling journey to solve the mystery of their identities, uncovering a deeply emotional tale of love and betrayal along the way.

The series was created by writer and showrunner Anna Fishko, alongside Boat Rocker, whose Temple Street Productions also produced the original series that aired from 2013 to 2017.

Fishko’s previous credits include Fear the Walking Dead and The Society. The cast was rounded out by Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, Rya Kihlstedt, and James Hiroyuki Liao.

Before the show's debut, Ritter spoke with Reporter about the challenges of launching a new project in today’s competitive TV market.

“There are so many platforms, and from a business perspective, it helps to have an established IP, a marquee name, and a built-in fan base,” Ritter noted.

“That was definitely appealing. What drew me to this project was that it’s its own thing. It’s not the same DNA as the original series. It’s set in the same world, we have clones or printouts, but it’s different. I’m not playing seven characters like Tatiana [Maslany]. We’re not remaking that show, so this one felt unique in its own right.”
